This article covers all you need to know ahead of changes that will be made to your 12Twenty platform to accommodate new guidelines for the 2020 NALP report.

Why are changes necessary?

NALP has announced changes to their ERSS reporting guidelines for the Class of 2020, and 12Twenty is ensuring the platform is in line with these updated standards.

When will changes be made?

One of the challenges with implementing the updated guidelines is the overlap of employment data collection between the Class of 2019 and 2020. To avoid confusion, we will make the appropriate changes to the platform immediately following the Class of 2019 reporting deadline for NALP. All of the changes outlined in this article will take place on August 7th 2020, after the final deadline to submit any corrections/changes to NALP for the Class of 2019.

It’s important to note that since there can be overlap between outcome data collection for the 2019 and 2020 classes, you may have a handful of 2020 graduates for which their demographic data (e.g. gender identity) should be updated following the changes we make on August 7th 2020. For example, a student who fills out the information on the Background tab of their profile before August 7th 2020 may want to return to the Background tab after August 7th 2020, as there will be an expanded list of gender identities to choose from once the updates are applied.

What will be changing, and what do I need to do?

Below we will outline each change we will make to the platform, as well as what (if any) action is needed.

Gender Identity

The 12Twenty “Gender” picklist will be updated. The current options on our gender picklist are: Male, Female, I Do Not Identify as Male or Female, and I identify as transgender. The new options will be: Woman, Trans Woman, Man, Trans Man, Non-binary/third gender, Prefer not to disclose, and Choose to self-identify with an identity not listed above (free text response).

Action requested? No action is needed. Historical data will be re-categorized as follows.

  • Students with a Male value will now be reflected as Man.

  • Students with a Female value will now be reflected as Woman.

  • Students with an I Do Not Identify as Male or Female value will now be reflected as Choose to self-identify with an identity not listed above (free text: I Do Not Identify as Male or Female).

  • Students with an I identify as transgender value will now be reflected as Choose to self-identify with an identity not listed above (free text: I identify as transgender).

A new single-select picklist field, What is the highest level of education completed by either of your parents (or the people who raised you)?, will be added to the Background tab of the student profile. The picklist values will be: Did not finish high school,
